SAVING AND PROTECTING ANIMALS. ONE LAW AT A TIME.

CANADA GOOSE COMMITS TO GO FUR FREE BY END OF 2022!

Social Compassion in Legislation and the entire animal rights community is thrilled with the announcement from Canada Goose that the company will cease buying fur by the end of this year and end the manufacturing of all products with fur by the end of 2022.

SCIL Board Member, Maggie Q, has also been on the frontline in the fight against Canada Goose.

“It’s a great day when a company as callously cruel as Canada Goose, decides to make a change. I remember protesting against them at their headquarters and their CEO would not see me,” said Maggie. “He apologized as his schedule was full, and I didn’t make a “proper” appointment. I later did what he asked, and he still would not see me. I have had so many doors shut in my face, and you know what? I love it. Because one day, the demand for kindness will be so loud- the only door being shut in anyone’s face will be the one shut on theirs.”

SCIL recognizes the tireless work by so many groups, such as PETA and many others, and the individual activists from around the world that have poured their hearts into the fight to save animals from the fur trade.

We are also proud of our own involvement. Along with the Center for Biological Diversity, we cosponsored AB 273 the Wildlife Protection Act of 2019, which was authored with the courageous leadership of Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez. The bill banned all fur trapping in California. The law is still one of its kind in the nation. We hope other states will soon recognize that fur trapping is cruel and replicate California’s fur trapping ban.

In 2019, Social Compassion in Legislation teamed up with Richman Law Group, along with Voters for Animal Rights and the Fur-Bearers to file a Federal Trade Commission complaint against Canada Goose for false or deceptive advertising by Canada Goose Holdings, Inc. As set forth in our complaint, consumers were being misled by Canada Goose’s representations that the fur used in Canada Goose products was humanely sourced.

We are proud that our efforts were among the many that led Canada Goose to decide to end its use of fur. However, Canada Goose is only one company and the fight to end the fur trade world-wide continues. But today we all celebrate this victory for animals and our animal rights movement!

Thank you all for your support. Please help us to continue our life saving work for the animals. We exist by donations alone, please donate today!

Deepest appreciation,
