Today, AB 416 with a vote of 5-2 (Republicans voting ‘NO’) and AB 1282 with a unanimous vote both passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee!!!
AB 416, the California Deforestation-Free Procurement Act and AB 1282, the California Pet Blood Bank Modernization Act, will help save our planet’s most important forests and the lives of our beloved companion animals, respectively. As many of you may know, the Appropriations Committees are where bills go to die, so getting these two bills out is super exciting!
We are appreciative to the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Portantino and his staff, and our champions, Assemblymembers Ash Kalra, Richard Bloom, and Senator Wilk for their leadership on these issues.
We can’t thank you all enough for your calls and letters – they make a huge difference!
Please, stay with us! We are so close to the finish line!
Now, we must get 21 votes (out of 40) on the Senate floor in order for each of these bills to get to the Governor for his signature!
We need your continued support to get it done and move them along to the finish line.
Time to call your Senator for a final push!
The bills will be eligible to be voted on the Senate floor by next Tuesday, although it could be all the way up to the week of September 7th. So please get your calls in as soon as possible.
Please make one call for both bills, and please get others to do the same!
