On February 9, 2026, OHSU’s Board of Directors will vote on whether to enter negotiations with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to explore transitioning the Oregon National Primate Research Center into a primate sanctuary—reflecting a growing shift away from nonhuman primate experimentation and toward modern, human-based science.
