SCR 100 (Lara) - Carcinogenic Meats Need support letters by April 6th

SCR 100 would urge the OEHHA to comply with Proposition 65 and warn individuals of their potential exposure to this harmful substance by amending California Code of Regulations, title 27, section 27001(b) to add "processed meat (consumption of)" to the list of "chemicals known to the state to cause cancer."

AB 3159 (Thurmond) - Animal Slaughter: Poultry

March 26, 2018
AB 3159 will require that poultry shackled prior to slaughter are rendered unconscious to ensure that they do not experience unnecessary pain. Alternative methods exist that allow for stunning or killing of poultry before they are shackled with greater accuracy than electrified water-bath stunning methods.

SB 1249, as introduced, Galgiani. Animal testing: cosmetics. This bill would make it unlawful for any cosmetic manufacturer to knowingly import for profit, sell at retail, or offer for sale at retail in this state, any cosmetic, as defined, if the final product or any component thereof was developed or manufactured using animal testing after January 1, 2020.

Shelley Elam has served on many charitable organizations and whose long time love of animals brought her to being involved with SoCal Bulldog Rescue and eventually becoming a foster mom for their organization. Shelley is an avid supporter of many other local rescues including Roadogs Rescue and SnipBus. We are thrilled to have Shelley join us and bring her passion to save animals to SCIL. Shelley is so enthusiastic, she is already researching and preparing an important bill for 2019!

Leah Sturgis joins SCIL board as Vice President of Wildlife Protection

Leah Sturgis is an independent film Producer and Director who became a passionate voice for wildlife after her dog was caught in deadly fur trap that was illegally set on her private property. With a background in Communications and 20 years experience in the film and television industry, Leah has worked extensively in the visual arts and has produced and directed videos, commercials, live television programs, and a feature film. As her awareness grew about the atrocities being done to wildlife, Leah took action and became a lobbyist, lobbying for trapping and wildlife management reform. She is currently producing a documentary film on whale entanglement.
